It’s off to Italy and Sicily we go (don’t ever suggest to a Sicilian they are Italian – more on that history in the days to come). Our travels will focus on the Italian region of Puglia which is the heel of the boot along the Adriatic Sea followed by a second week on the east coast of Sicily (fingers crossed that Mount Etna’s eruptions are finished for now).
We’re with Louise and Doug Pegg with whom we’ve shared travel adventures to Peru, Chile, France, Spain and Portugal. So, two old hats at this sort of thing as we explore the wineries, monuments and assorted attractions in two very different cultures.
Of course, being a Bennett-Pegg tour there will be bicycling, hiking, exploring and learning all about the Primativo grape (Puglia’s dominant varietal) which is not to be outdone by the Sicilian Catarratto (White) and Nero d’Avola (Red). So much wine, so little time.
